THE FIELD

Barbados is the most easterly island in the Caribbean chain. It is Just 21 miles long and 14 miles wide yet it has a population of over 270.000. It is a politically and economically stable country, being classified as one of the top developing countries in the world. It has a good educational system and a very high rate of literacy. Religiously the island would be classified as Christian with other religious groups comprising less than 5% of the population. The biggest religious groups are the Anglicans (Episcopalians), Pentecostals, Seventh Day Adventists and Jehovah's Witnesses. The Restoration movement on the island began in the late 1920's and the first missionaries from the Churches of Christ/Christian Churches in America came in 1954. Currently there are 6 Churches of Christ (Instrumental) and 1 Christian Church on the island. These churches are located in the southern and eastern part of the island. The Churches of Christ on the island, in addition to the various churches, have a camp property of 4.5 acres in Jezreel, Ruby, St. Philip. Four of the congregations cooperate to sponsor a weekly radio broadcast on Q 100.7 FM on Tuesday evenings at 9.45 p.m.. They also have a small bible college the Lower Caribbean Bible College which provides leadership training for the churches
